I inherited my grandmother’s ring, which is in the art deco style, with three diamonds in the middle (stacked - like a stoplight) and two tubular garnets on either side. I don’t think they’re rubies because they are deep red, but clear. The ring is from the 1920s, and 14K gold. A dept. store jeweler once told me the stones were synthetic because he could see tiny bubbles. Is he right?

I’ve a 14KT gold ring with what looks like garnets and diamonds in it. It is Art Deco and was given to my grandmother as an engagement ring in 1927. In a loupe I can see air bubbles in the red stones. Does this mean they are synthetic?
Well you all certainly disagree! The Antiques Roadshow is coming to town next month, and I will definately take it in to see what the experts say. Thanks!
