nspiteri asked: wikipedia defines costume jewellery as ‘jewelry that is made of less valuable materials, including base metals, glass, plastic, and synthetic stones, in place of more valuable materials such as precious metals and gems.’
yet when last weekend I took my £80 swarovski ring for repairs (caused by wear and tear on the rhodium) at a number swarovski outlets they said they don’t repair that sort of scratches (and said its still in good condition considering its 4 years old!).
One particular outlet additionally commented that swarovski jewellery are, after all, just costume jewellery. Costume jewellery does sometimes say it has swarovski crystals, and the ring doesn’t have any diamonds or previous gems; although it costs much more then the normal £5 ring you’d get from a costume jewellery shop
So my question: is Swarovski jewellery and overly expensive costume jewellery?
