Amy B asked:

I am not impressed with Moissanite. I want that glimmer of a diamond without the blood or the price that goes with a real one. I want something that will last and look good in the meantime. Are there any retail stores that sell high quality jewelry with these “simulants?”

It is a 1 carat diamond solitaire princess cut with some side stones and is very beautiful- He says he will tell her it is man-made- it cost him about $1500 bucks but would have cost about $6000 if it were not man-made. Pros and cons anyone?

What is the difference between lab created diamonds and real diamonds?

So I’m engagement ring shopping. I see lots and lots of rings I like. Then I see what Ebay has to offer…

Now there are a lot of shops on Ebay. I don’t even trust Ebay, so I don’t even know why I’m looking. But anyway, I find this one…and it says “Lab Created”. I read some info on it, but it doesn’t answer my question.

So my question is this:

What is the difference?
Why would I want a lab created diamond?
Is this a perfectly acceptable alternitive to a real mined diamond….or is this some black market I should stay away from?

And please tell me why and how you came up with your answers…and any sources too.

Heres the ring I was talking about from ebay:

my boyfriend bought me a 2 carat white gold engagement ring. the diamond is not a natural diamond, but a lab created diamond. is there anything wrong with that? i read that the only difference is that natural is mined from the ground, and that lab created is made the same way as it would be created in the ground except it’s made in a lab. does anyone have a lab created diamond, and can you tell the difference?

Is Swarovski jewellery a type of costume jewellery?

nspiteri asked:

wikipedia defines costume jewellery as ‘jewelry that is made of less valuable materials, including base metals, glass, plastic, and synthetic stones, in place of more valuable materials such as precious metals and gems.’

yet when last weekend I took my £80 swarovski ring for repairs (caused by wear and tear on the rhodium) at a number swarovski outlets they said they don’t repair that sort of scratches (and said its still in good condition considering its 4 years old!).

One particular outlet additionally commented that swarovski jewellery are, after all, just costume jewellery. Costume jewellery does sometimes say it has swarovski crystals, and the ring doesn’t have any diamonds or previous gems; although it costs much more then the normal £5 ring you’d get from a costume jewellery shop

So my question: is Swarovski jewellery and overly expensive costume jewellery?
