I’ve a 14KT gold ring with what looks like garnets and diamonds in it. It is Art Deco and was given to my grandmother as an engagement ring in 1927. In a loupe I can see air bubbles in the red stones. Does this mean they are synthetic?
Well you all certainly disagree! The Antiques Roadshow is coming to town next month, and I will definately take it in to see what the experts say. Thanks!

How do you know the difference between a cubic zirconia and a real diamond? Just the stones, not in a setting?

I mean in all reality cubics are actually man made diamonds produced under extreme pressure just like a diamond, only they don’t take anywhere near as long as a diamond takes obviously.
WOW EXCELLENT Elizabeth exactly what I was looking for ty!!!

When I say ‘man-made’, I am not talking about cubic zirconia, I am talking about the ones synthetically made. I am trying to make diamonds in chemistry, but would those diamonds be 10 on the Mohs scale? Please help!!

Can you tell the difference between a “real” diamond, and a lab created diamond?

I am no expert and am trying to figure this out. There seems to be no major difference rather than how it was created, and how old it is.

Say I bought a lab created diamond. Then I took it in to get it appraised, will the jewler know that is lab created, and if so how?

What are some advantages or disadvantages to a lab created diamond?

And what is the difference (chemically) between lab-created diamonds and natural diamonds. I heard that most diamond experts cannot tell the difference between natural diamonds and lab-created. Is this true?

Natural Diamonds v.s. Man Made Diamonds?

Natural Diamonds v.s. Man Made Diamonds?

What is the word used for a man made diamond? I’m not talking about Cubic Zirconiums (CZ’s), and i’m not too sure what Moissanite is.

I am looking for a cheaper alternative for a wedding ring. I want a real diamond. Not a CZ or anything fake. But i have heard that there are man made diamonds that are real… meaning they have the same structure and are made of the same thing as natural diamonds…. and they’re supposidly cheaper.

Also what is the difference between the man made Diamonds and natural Diamonds? Quality?

And what should i look out for when buying a real man made diamond, making sure that i get exactly that and not a CZ or sapphire or something like that?

Also, with a man made diamond does it show that it is real when the jewlers use those little hand held diamond detector things? Sorry, I’m not sure what they are called. But I’m sure someone knows what I’m talking about. :-D [ I think that they determine whether or not the stone conducts heat when the tip of the hand held doo-dad is applied , and if it shows that the stone does conduct heat then it is determined to be a diamond. Correct me if I'm wrong.]

I would really appreciate it if someone could answer all of my questions, i have a lot of them and i just wanna do some research before i go out and buy a man made diamond only to find out its not what i want. Thank you so much!

Are Absolute Diamonds man-made diamonds or totally fake?

Nancy asked:

By totally fake, I mean cubic zirconia. There is a man-made growing process that will produce real diamonds vs diamonds that are made from time, heat, pressure and coal. I’m trying to find out if an Absolute ™ diamond is a cz or if it’s made/grown through the man-made process.

aredsailjunk asked:

Can some one explain please what these new diamonds that are being advertised in pull outs of Sunday papers are.Have been- told true or not - that the regular old” deep time “process that creates natural/true diamonds is accelerated in the labs. Also difficult for jewelers to tell the difference.?..Are they graded by the old C`s method or all the same ?
Thanks
