If You Were The Casting Director For Harry Potter Movies, Would You Change Anything?

March 5th, 2010 by admin | Filed under Movies.
The Dude asked:

I’d add Dobby back into the movies. Also Bill & Charlie Weasley, maybe Stewart Townsend for Bill. Also, the man who is suppose to play Professor Slughorn(the man who was the professor in Chornicles of Narnia) would’ve made a good Dumbledore and Michael Gambon would’ve made a good Slughorn. Nicole Kidman would make a great Narcissa Malfoy and Djmon Husley(sp? Blood Diamond & Gladiator) would’ve made the PERFECT Kingsley Shacklebolt. Also, I’d make Dan. Radcliffe wear green contacts.
If yes, what would you change?
Most sick people have a lot of time on their hands.
The original Dumbledore was Richard Harris(decesased), who wasn’t in LOTR, that was Ian McKellen(alive).

And no, you didn’t spoil anything for me :) In my opinion, Bellatrix Lestrange, Lucius Malfoy, Severus Snape, Hagrid & Voldemort were the BEST casting decisions.

ABSOLUTELY NOT, THAT GUY IS A GENIUS

  2. CassieRomane | 13/03/10

I would make Sirius Black more attractive. It said in the books he was but in the films he looks kind of old and mangy - like the dog :)

I think you have too much time on your hands………

  4. JohneyGomez | 16/03/10

I would make the film 10 hours long for my own pleasure.

  8. ray ray | 23/03/10

The original Dumbledore who also played in the Lord Of the Rings but he passed away.

I’d put in all the stuff that they miss out in the books. I’d add a tragedy with Mad Eye Moody, so maybe his eye falls out or something. Then Voldemort would come to destroy it. That sounds good to me doesn’t it to you!!??

I would slap Daniel Radcliffe, he just isn’t the way I pictured harry.

Instead of riding broomsticks, quiditch (i don’t know how it’s spelled) would pilot military helicopters and blow each other up. I’m pretty sure we can agree that this minor adjustment stays true to what author Rowling was going for.

yea and contacts are easy to put in…..i wish i could have colored contacts but my parents wont get me them. but anyway….i think for ludo bagman….idk..but he should be in the movies. and i think timothy somehting was really good as pettigrew.

I would change a ton of stuff, mostly I would change the main kids for kids that can act, Harry and Ron arn’t the worst but Hermoine would definitly not get the part that girl is a terible actress. I like most of the adults though I would not have made David Thewlis Lupin, and I would make a lot of adults (Lupin, Sirus and Snape) younger because if you do the math from Harrys parents ages when they died the 3 adults names should have been in there early thirties when we met them.

I would make it so there is a little more chemistry between Hermione and Ron. It is supposed to lead up to something, but there really isn’t anything there. Same goes with Harry and Ginny. They better get it going in the 6th movie. I am having a party when it comes out :D

I totally agree with you! Well, almost.

Jason Isaacs is amazing; I never cared much for Lucius in the books, but in the movies he’s just so powerful and intense that you cannot help but to notice him! It’s one of the rare moments where the character is actually better in the movie version of the book. His Lucius is everything he should be: proud, powerful, disdainful, evil and dangerously sexy.

Alan Rickman is another actor I adore and he’s perfect as Snape; even though he’s over 60, he looks so young when playing Snape - perhaps because of the black wig? At any rate, his unique voice adds to the sarcasm and all the particular traits Snape has, not to mention the way he can rise just one eyebrow up. He just is Snape!

Ralph Finnes is someone I’d never pick for the role of Voldemort, perhaps because I see him as such a lovely guy from his other roles - but he’s fantastic! And very in character when portraying Voldemort.

Helena Bonham-Carter didn’t get much screen time, but she plays a very believable Bellatrix, full of the mad passion Bella displays in the book. You can tell she liked her part and did her best - she’s an awesome actress, too.

I also think that Maggie Smith is awesome as McGonagall. Since the 1st movie came out, I just cannot picture Minerva differently. Her performance doesn’t hit me as strongly as Jasons’ or Alan’s does, but still, it’s very precise. I cannot recall how I imagined her before Maggie, she’s so efficient. Another actor who was brilliant in his role was Kenneth Branagh as Gilderoy Lockhart - although I had imagined Gilderoy more handsome, he was flawless in his role.

Now on what I’d change… Gary Oldman isn’t really Sirius for me; I don’t know, I have nothing against his acting, but he doesn’t strike me as someone so handsome like Rowling describes… Even if we take Azkaban and all the trouble he’s gone through, I’m still not happy with him. David Thewlis also isn’t the right one for Lupin (for starters, I’ve always imagined Lupin with lighter hair, sand-like almost, and with NO moustache!), but in those cases, I still don’t know who I’d pick for the roles.

As for Dumbledore, I like Michael Gambon physically - I think his eyes are really piercing like Dumbledore’s should be, but he’s way too energic (and sometimes, strangely angry!) for the character. I’d go for Gambon’s physique and Harris’ behaviour for the perfect Dumbledore.

And about Narcissa, I agree with you! Nicole Kidman would be amazing in the role, especially after seeing her in The Golden Compass. Djimon Hounsou would be perfect as Kingsley, also, but I like the current actor, George Harris.

I got carried away, sorry. It just angers me that most people only care about Emma, Daniel or Rupert, when the adult cast is so brilliant (and two of my favourite three actors are there).

I would change the girl who plays ginny, she should be prettier cos in the book it says shes really pretty, and ron, hermione and harrry arent brilliant actors but i guess they look right. People who i think are perfect in their roles are Michael Gambon, Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith Jason Isaacs and also Timothy Spall is excellent as Pettigrew.
The best in the fifth one was Bellatrix Lestrange, Helena Bonham Carter was given hardly any screen time but she still managed to outshine everyone else.

I’m with you all the way. It’s hard to argue a point that’s already been cleared. I thought the casting was really good. As for the three main protagonists, they couldn’t have casted anyone better than Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint.

Oh, yes, I can see where you’re going. Djimon Hounsou would be a perfect Kingsley. You bring up some really valid points, all that should be taken consideration.

At this point in the stage, however, it would be pointless to give Daniel green contacts. He started off without them, and it would seem weird to have him come into the next movie with green eyes.

Also, for your consideration, “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” is scheduled for theatrical release, November 21.

    GOSH

    ur a geek

  19. purpleCat | 10/04/10

Yes. For one, i’d have Peeves. And I’d have someone else casted for the role of Harry Potter, Cedric Diggory and Viktor Krum. And Michael Gambon will not play Dumbledore
