It’s been so long since I’ve seen it. For some reason I thought Lou Diamond Phillips played a roll.
One scene is of a man standing behind a seated woman, and he squeezes her throat. The viewer thinks that she has died, but then the man takes her face off to reveal that she was really a robot.
The character that I thought Lou Diamond Phillips played, ended up having a robot that looked like him made too.
(wore a black coat? and carried a gun), and I think the bad guys were able to track his credit card spending to try to locate him.

You’re not thinking of West World (1973), are you? The sequel to West World was Future World (1976). I think there’s a scene in A.I. in which a woman sits down with a man behind her and he (played by William Hurt) reveals that she is really a robot.
